While we may not hear about bedbug infestations (cimex lectularius) here in Brisbane very often, there is a very good reason for this – and it’s not because they don’t happen!
Businesses like hotels, motels, transportation, and virtually any that have seats or beds open to the public are constantly finding themselves infected all across the country. These businesses, however, are most likely doing everything they can to stop you hearing about it. That’s fine though, as long as they do the right thing and call the experts here at Amalgamated Pest Control Commercial, where we can take care of the problem professionally and with no further issues to their customers.
But it’s Winter, aren’t I safe for now?
Bed bugs are not worried about it being cold, and especially not by the mild winter we have had this year. They are an all-year-round pest, and you should be on the lookout for them at all times, regardless of the season. Bed bugs can be very hard to contain without the correct processes and procedures, and you don’t want them to spread!
What happened in this CBD hotel?
After an extremely thorough inspection of a number of rooms, including mattresses, linen, pillows and covers, as well as bedsides, curtains, couches and areas even further out from the bed area, it was discovered that this infestation was indeed confined to one room – very lucky for the hotel and the guests! With all sheets going to one central place for washing (which does not kill bed bugs!) and then back again to any room in the hotel, these infestations can spread extremely quickly.
Once found, the treatment moved from the bed itself out, with bedbugs found throughout the entire room. Using a mostly physical treatment method rather than chemical, utilising specialist vacuum equipment and other tools of the trade, we were able to remove both the adult bugs and the eggs from the room, removing the problem and ensuring it won’t increase from here. Until another guest brings more in, that is!
What should I look out for? Is there any training you can give us?
If a guest comes down to reception in the middle of the night with nasty bites all over them, chances are you’ve found them! There are other less obvious signs to look out for however, including a musty smell, which we would love to share with you and your business staff. Contact us today to book a staff and management training session that could save you time, money and your reputation!
What should I do if I find bedbugs??
If you have found bed bugs, the first thing to do is: do nothing! Do not attempt to spray, or squash, or vacuum them away. The chances that anyone other than a skilled technician will be able to remove them all successfully are very slim, and will often do more harm than good. The next immediate step is to call us here at Amalgamated Pest Control Commercial.
We are the most professional team you will find to solve your bed bug problem. There are many operators out there performing shonky ‘treatments’ that can make the problem worse for you. If your pest controller says they will just spray, or get out a household vacuum, or even (one of the most amazing) recommend ‘heat’ – “we need to heat the room to kill the bugs” – say “thanks but no thanks!” and call us immediately.
These methods are ineffective and cause more problems than they solve. Call the experts.
